Maoist Leader Mahato Remanded to 10 Days CBI Custody

Maoist leader and main accused in Gyaneshwari train attack Bapi Mahato has been remanded to ten days of CBI custody by Jhargram court, said media reports.

Mahto, who was flown in a helicopter from Jamshedpur in Jharkhand to Midnapore in West Bengal, was interrogated by the CBI and the state police.

He was brought to Midnapore a day after he was taken into custody from a guest house in Jamshedpur

He faces charges for maliciously wrecking a train and destruction of railway property as well as murder, attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy.

The CBI had announced a reward of one lakh rupees for information on Bapi Mahato and two others who are still absconding.

During his interrogation over the last 24 hours, Mahato is believed to have named several co-conspirators in the Gyaneshwari derailment, including some Maoist leaders. Earlier, the CPI-Maoist had denied any role in the train disaster.
