Mamata launching her campaign on 10th of April

KOLKATA: On April 10 in Malda, Mamata Banerjee will launch her campaign for the Assembly polls. A-district-a-day tour of north Bengal and parts of south Bengal will go on till April 24, before the third phase of polling is over.

Mamata has decided to go for a “carpet-bombing-like” campaign to cover the maximum number of seats. Faced with the daunting task of reaching out to 226 seats in the state where Trinamul Congress candidates are contesting, Trinamul leaders feel that the six-phase polling has come as a boon for the party, allowing Mamata to devote more time to each seat.

A Trinamul leader said, “She wants to campaign intensively and that’s why she decided not to contest the polls,”.

Soon after the high court allowed use of loudspeakers from April 9, Mamata chalked out her programme for public meetings in the districts.

Mamata said at a media conference before announcing her dates for the districts, “I had to hold silent padayatras all this while. There was no other way out. With the restrictions gone we can address the voters in north Bengal.”

Mamata will be in north Bengal for the first five days of ‘yatra’. After a brief stopover for some hours in Calcutta on Poila Baisakh to seek the blessings of her mother, Mamata’s juggernaut will roll out in south Bengal.

Trinamul sources said that, Mamata would focus on three to four meetings a day covering the entire district. During the meetings, candidates from neighbouring constituencies will be asked to join her on stage.
