CM to launch second phase of Mamta Abhiyan today

Bhopal: Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan will launch the second phase of Mamta Abhiyan for improvement in maternal and infant health services at Samanvay Bhavan here on Thursday. Health Minister Dr. Narottam Mishra, Minister of State for Health Shri Sharad Jain and cine star Sushri Madhuri Dixit will be specially present on the occasion. A number of public welfare schemes have been started in Madhya Pradesh during last some year and being effectively implemented. These include efforts to promote institutional delivery to reduce maternal and infant mortality rate, construction of SNCUs, Janani Express Yojana, Sanjeevini 108 for taking accident affected people or patients to hospitals, establishment of NRCs for eradicating malnutrition etc. More than national average fall in maternal and infant mortality rate has been witnessed in Madhya Pradesh. The state government has decided to undertake special policy matter related efforts regarding maternal and infant mortality rate during next 2 years. All OPD and indoor patients in all health centres are provided free medical tests, medicines and daily free nutritious meals. Lakhs of people are availing these facilities daily. The state has 1412 delivery centres providing safe delivery facility. For effective intervention at village level, Gram Arogya Kendras have been established in 49 thousand 970 villages, which are being strengthened further. Through these efforts, maternal mortality rate in the state has been brought down from 310 per lakh to 22 per lakh and infant mortality rate from 63 per thousand live births to 56 thousand per live births while gross birth rate has been reduced from 3.1 to 2.9. A target has been set to reduce maternal mortality rate to 225 per lakh, infant mortality rate to 30 thousand per live births and gross birth rate to 2.6. Under the second phase of Mamta Abhiyan, efforts will be made to identify risk-prone pregnant women and their proper treatment and safe delivery will be ensured. International technical protocols are being strictly adhered to regarding services aiming at reduction in maternal and infant mortality rate and gross birth rate under the campaign. In the first phase of Mamta Abhiyan, attention was paid to activation of delivery centres, strengthening of transportation facilities for delivery, free medical tests and medicines and free nutritious food for pregnant women. In the second phase, attention is being paid to pre and post-natal tests, infants’ tests, delivery management and identification of high-risk pregnant women.
