Kidnapped Officials Returned

DIPHU (Assam): The two forest officials who were abducted on March 3 by KPLT militants have been released near a highway at Bokolia in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district.

The two officers were kidnapped when they were returning from Sighasan Hills.

They had gone their with a 60-member delegation, including some Japanese botanists to conduct a forest department survey.

The delegates returned safely but the officials were abducted. The two officials are Chief Conservator of Forest Abhijit Rabha and Range Officer Ranjan Barua. They were rescued by the police officials of Bokolia police station.

The officers said that they were released by the militants yesterday night near a highway at Bokolia. Both of them are taken to hospital for treatment.

Assam government said that Karbi Peoples Liberation Tiger (KPLT) militants were behind the abduction of the two forest officers.

The relatives of the officials appealed to the abductors for their release on humanitarian grounds. The abductors demand a ransom of Rs 1 crore , but clear reports are not obtained whether they are released after payment or not.
