KCR Says Centre Betrayed Us

Following announcement of terms of reference (ToR) by the Centre for Telangana panel, TSR supreme Chandrasekhar Rao has asked all his party MPs and MLAs to step down immediately in protest against what he termed Centre’s ‘betrayal’, said media reports.

Coming down heaving on the central government, TRS chief was quoted as saying: “The Centre has betrayed us once again.”

Rao has called an emergency meeting of his party’s politburo to discuss ToR of the Srikrishna Committee and formulate future course of action, said reports.

Besides, an PRP MLA from Nirmal in Adilabad too has decided to quit, while Congress legislators are scheduled to meet in the evening to discuss the committee’s agenda, said reports.

In the meanwhile, the Osmani University Joint Action Committee had demanded scrapping of the Srikrishna Committee and called for a shutdown in Telangana region on Saturday, reports said.

The Telangana leaders want modalities spelt out for carving out a Telangana state from Andhra Pradesh. However, the Centre has asked the committee to ‘examine the situation in Andhra Pradesh with reference to demand for a separate state of Telangana as well as the demand for maintaining the present status of united Andhra Pradesh’.

The committee is to submit its report to the Centre by December 31 this year.

Terming Centre’s move as unethical, KCR was quoted as saying, “We are disappointed with the terms of reference. We were given to understand that the Committee will discuss the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and how to carve out Telangana.”

He also said that the December 31 deadline was unnecessarily long, said reports.
