JMM, BJP Flay Imposition of President’s Rule in Jharkhand

The JMM and the BJP has condemned Centre’s decision to impose President’s rule in Jharkhand while Congress has said that there was no other option, said media reports.

“It is unfortunate that president’s rule has been imposed in Jharkhand. This should not have happened. Efforts will be made by our party to install a popular government in the state,” JMM central committee member Supriyo Bhattacharya was quoted as saying.

In the meanwhile, BJP national secretary and former chief minister Arjun Munda said: “President’s rule is not an option in democracy. The BJP is observing the political situation and the party will monitor the activities taking place under president’s rule.”

Though Congress justified president’s rule, it also advocated a popular government in the state, reports said.

“There was no option but to impose president’s rule in Jharkhand. The governor explored the possibilities of formation of government in the state, but no party came out with numbers to form the government. Effort should be made to install a popular government as the assembly has been kept under suspended animation,” Shailesh Sinha, general secretary of the state Congress unit, was quoted as saying.

The All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), which had propped the JMM-BJP government, held both national parties responsible for it, said reports.

“Both the Congress and the BJP are equally responsible for president’s rule in the state,” AJSU legislator Uma Kant Razak was quoted as saying.
