J&K Employee Strike Enters 10th Day

Braving threats of termination from service, striking state government employees in Jammu and Kashmir continued to press for their demands seeking the payment wage arrears, even as their agitation entered the 10th day on Monday, say reports.

Some five lakh government employees are on strike, demanding sixth pay commission arrears and an increase in their retirement age from 58 years to 60.

While the state government is unable to cough up the whopping Rs 4,200 crore it owes to the employees in arrears, repeated efforts to break the strike have failed to cut ice.

The employees have refused to return to work despite the state government decision to invoke the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) last week.
