Private Bus Strike Hits Kerala Commuters
Everyday life remains affected life across the southern state of Kerala, as 3,000 private bus operators stayed off the roads in response to a strike called by the Kerala State Private Bus Operators Federation to press for an immediate revision of the minimum fares and a roll-back of concessional tariff charged to students.
Commuters in north and central parts of the state were the hardest hit by the day-long strike that commenced this morning.
Federation members termed the strike as total.
Passengers faced severe hardships in Kochi, Kozhikode, Thrissur and Kollam. But bus traffic in the state capital – Thiruvananthapuram – remained intact, as most of the city services are operated by the state-run Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC).
