Namaz should be read in mosques rather than public spaces: Haryana CM Khattar

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday asked Muslims to read namaz either in a mosque or in their homes. The chief minister justified his statement saying that people object to Muslims reading namaz at public places.

Khattar’s statements come a day after members of a Hindutva outfit went around Gurgaon shouting slogans that compelled people to stop their namaz midway. “There is no problem reading namaz at public places until it is objected by other people,” Khattar said.

The CM added that the primary responsibility of his government was to maintain law and order and that he had ordered officers to remain vigilant of the situation.

“It is not good to read namaz in public places as there is shortage of space. There has been an increase in offering namaz in open. Namaz should be read in mosques or idgahs rather than public spaces,” Khattar said.
