MI 7 release today; insurance worth Rs 823 crore
Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning releases on July 12. Hollywood star Tom Cruise will once again be seen performing amazing stunts in the film. Its making started just before Kovid 19, but due to Corona, the film got stuck for two years, due to which the makers could get into trouble, but one of their decisions saved them from big loss.
Actually, the makers had already got the film insured, due to which they got a compensation of $5 million i.e. Rs 41 crore from the insurance company. However, the makers filed a case against the insurance company as they were not happy with the compensation of Rs 41 crore. He had insured 100 million dollars, i.e. 823 crore rupees before the making of the film. Therefore, due to getting less amount, the makers dragged the insurance company to the court.
By the way, not only movies, stars in Hollywood also get their body parts insured. Singer Mariah Carey got her legs insured for Rs 8,241 crore.
Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning, made in a budget of 2,300 crores, is the 7th film in this series. The previous films of the franchise were also insured. In the case of insurance, an anecdote related to the fourth film of this franchise, The Ghost Protocol, was very much discussed. Actually, the special thing about this entire franchise is that the lead star of the film, Tom Cruise, does all the dangerous stunts himself.
The Mission Impossible franchise is the 18th highest-grossing series in the world. It has grossed a total of $3.5 billion worldwide.
Even in Ghost Protocol, he insisted on doing a very dangerous stunt on Burj Khalifa himself, but the insurance company was not ready for it. There was a lot of debate between Tom and the insurance company, but things didn’t work out. Tom didn’t want to drop the Burj Khalifa stunt from the film at all and the insurance company was also adamant that they would not pay any damages to Tom or the film if anything untoward happens during this stunt. Tom was not intimidated by this threat and removed that insurance company and got the film insured through a new insurance company.
The CEO of American company Skydance Production, which co-produced The Ghost Protocol with Tom Cruise, said in an interview in 2015, ‘In Ghost Protocol we wanted to hang Tom on the side of Burj Khalifa. The company that did the movie insurance didn’t want Tom to take a risk by doing such a dangerous stunt, but we removed him and got him insured with a new insurance company.
Tom rehearsed the stunt for months. On the day of the stunt, the entire team was present at Burj Khalifa, everything was ready, but as soon as Tom started the stunt, his head hit the building. Then we all felt that maybe we have made a mistake by keeping this stunt in the film. We are idiots taking such a risk, but after the second rehearsal, Tom nailed the stunt perfectly. We shot it twice and it was a great experience.
