I Visit Human-being’s House, Not Dalit’s: Rahul Gandhi

Reacting to all political criticism on his visit to a Dalit family in UP as a mere political stunt, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi has said that he goes to a human being’s house, not to a Dalit’s house.

“I don’t see myself staying with a Dalit. I see myself going to a human being’s house,” Gandhi said in Thiruvananthapuram while addressing media during his one-day visit to Kerala.

“You see him as a Dalit, I see him as a poorest person. The poorest are intelligent, but have no opportunity,” he added.

He said that in his view, the plight of the poorest of the poor in the country was because of the lack of opportunity rather than, say, education. However, he added that he did mean that getting an education was not important or necessary.

His visit to the southern state is important keeping in view the by elections to three assembly seats scheduled to held on November 7.

The Congress will take it as an opportunity to deal another blow to the CPI(M)-led LDF combine.
