Ducking questions on Sanjay Nirupam, Rahul Gandhi attacks PM Modi, BJP over slumping economy

Thiruvananthapuram: On a day when Congress Maharashtra suffered a jolt at the hand of its senior party leader Sanjay Nirupam who declared he will not campaign in October 21 Assembly elections, Rahul Gandhi refused to acknowledge the same and instead trained his guns at the government.

Rahul Gandhi on Friday blamed PM Narendra Modi government for the struggling economy of the country.

“India’s biggest strength was its economy that has been destroyed by Mr Narendra Modi and the BJP. There is joblessness in the country. The GDP growth isn’t visible anymore. The people of India are being crushed. The government of India gave tax benefit of more than 1 lakh crore to just 15 people whereas people of Kerala have to beg for money for MNREGA. People of Kerala have to beg for money for building roads,” Rahul said during a press conference in Wayanad.

“BJP should answer this clearly; is this country only for 15-20 people? What about the poor people, labourers students? What about jobs? Who will ask those questions?” Rahul asked.

BJP and Narendra Modi should answer why they destroyed the economy of this country. They should answer why the youth of the country cannot find a job, the Gandhi family scion said.

The Indian economy is in a slump with GDP growth hitting a shocking 5 percent in the last quarter and inflation at 3.2%, which is well below RBI’s target of 4 percent. Nearly all economic sectors have witnessed contraction as per the latest data.
Rahul, however, ducked the question when asked about Nirupam’s attack on Congress leadership today. Nirupam, who was once Congress state president, said the party is not prepared for the upcoming State Assembly polls.

Alleging mistreatment at the party leadership’s hands who he said did not seek his suggestions on key decision related to his state, Nirupam, said he might be forced to quit the party if things do not change.
