Heavy Security ahead of ‘My Name…’ Release

Ahead of release of Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘My Name Is Khan’, heavy security has been put in place at cinema theatres across Mumbai, said media reports.

The movie is facing Shiv Sena’s ire due Khan’s criticism of exclusion of Pakistani cricketers from IPL.

In last two days, more than 1,600 Shiv Sainiks have been detained to foil protests by the Sena, which is demanding apology from Khan for his remarks, said reports.

“Elaborate security measures have been adopted to ensure no untoward incident happens (before and after the release of the movie). Nobody would be spared for taking law into their hands,” Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil was quoted as saying.

Besides, theatre-owners have been instructed to install night vision cameras so that police can identify troublemakers in the event any untoward incident comes to pass, said report.

They have been urged to keep the first two rows vacant and deploy at least two security guards inside the hall so that incidents such as ripping off screens with sharp instruments by troublemakers can be averted, said reports.

Police has issued notice warning Shiv Sena leaders not to create law and order problems, said reports.

Police Commissioner D Sivanandan has issued guidelines to all the police stations regarding security arrangements, reports said.

Constables deployed at theatres have been instructed to frisk ticket-holder and check their bags, though cine-goers don’t need to show identity cards, said reports.

A Sub-inspector, three Constables, two of the women, and five plainclothes policemen will man each single-screen cinema hall, said reports.

In the wake of the Sena intensifying protests, leaves of the policemen have been cancelled to ensure their full presence.

To further strengthen the security, personnel from State Reserve Police Force and Home Guards will be deployed at the theatres across the metropolis, said reports.
