BJP fallaciously shouting foul play

The state Congress has hailed the decision of the state government to reinstate indirect elections of mayors and chairpersons in urban bodies of the state.

In a statement party’s state general secretary and chairman communication wing Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said when Prime Minister and chief ministers in our country are elected by elected members of parliament and MLAs respectively, why then there is objection by the opposition over election of mayors and chairpersons by the elected corporators.

Main opposition BJP very well knows that it is going to register a shameful defeat in urban bodies’ elections and that was why it is shouting foul play, Trivedi said.

Due to inability to fight in a larger area because of expensive election process of mayor and chairpersons, small leaders and common worker lag behind in competition, he said. Hence, an active and energetic worker finds it difficult to fight the direct election of mayor and chairpersons, he added.

BJP, which is opposing the move of the government, should not forget that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself had been elected to the coveted post by this indirect election, he said.
