Professional pessimists will always doubt it: PM Modi on US $5 trillion economy Budget goal critics

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited his parliamentary constituency Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh today (July 6) to launch Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP’s) membership drive. He was welcomed by BJP working president JP Nadda, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and party’s state unit MN Pandey at the airport upon arrival.

PM Modi inaugurated a statue of the former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at the Varanasi airport. There he was greeted by Shastri’s elder son and senior Congress leader Anil Shastri and BJP leader Sunil Shastri.

It was followed by an event marking the launch of a tree-plantation drive.

“I look forward to being in Varanasi tomorrow, where I will take part in various programmes. The first programme is the unveiling of the great Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji’s statue at the airport. This will be followed by the programme marking the launch of a tree-plantation drive,” PM Modi said in a statement on Twitter earlier.

Modi last visited Varanasi on May 27 to thank the voters of his constituency for handing him a thumping victory by a huge margin of 4.79 lakh votes.

Reiterating his earlier call to citizens to save water, Modi in Varanasi said more than the availability of water, the wastage and careless use of water are bigger problems. So be it use in homes or for irrigation, we have to stop the wastage of water, Modi told BJP workers.

“There is a saying in English ‘size of the cake matters’, meaning, the bigger the cake, bigger the slice people will get. That is why we have goal of a USD 5 trillion dollar economy,” Modi said.

“Yesterday on TV and today in newspapers, you must have heard and read about the goal of USD 5 trillion economy. It is very important for you all to understand what this means and how it is connected to every Indian citizen,” Modi said.

On the same day the BJP will initiate its membership drive in different parts of the country. Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah set to commence a similar initiative by enrolling a tribal family in Telangana on July 6. He will formally unveil the drive in presence of BJP state chief K Laxman.

Similarly, veteran party leader and Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal will launch the party’s membership drive in Goa as part of the nationwide programme. The launch function will be conducted in state’s Sankhalim Assembly constituency, and will be attended by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and BJP Goa unit president Vinay Tendulkar.

Similar big ticket launch events are also planned in Chandigarh, Jammu & Kashmir and several other states.
