CM Convenes DCs, IGs – Calls for Greater Coordination

Addressing a convention of the officials at the Mantralaya in the state capital, Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday urged Divisional Commissioners (DCs) and Inspector Generals of police (IGs) to effectively play their respective roles.

Chouhan said the DCs and IGs were an important link between state government and district administration.

He stressed the need for greater coordination between the officials at division level and desired them to be in constant touch with him.

They should also maintain a live contact with the officers of the districts under their jurisdiction and undertake field visits to maintain a meaningful dialogue with local public representative and to make spot assessment of the schemes.

While reviewing the law and order situation, Chouhan referred to the recent Dindori incident and asked the officers to remain alert and establish dialogue with the people while keeping their feelings and aspirations in mind.

The agitationists are not criminals. They have some expectations and proper dialogue and early information can greatly help avert untoward situations and the need for the use of force, he said and stressed the need for action against the forest, drug, liquor, mining and land mafia.

Praising the action initiated against cooperative housing societies in Indore, Chouhan called on officers to replicate it across the state.

He called for the strengthening the intelligence mechanism in the state and intensifying the pace of investigation into serious crimes.

He directed the IGs to undertake fortnightly review of disposal of the complaints received during public hearing held at different levels by the police department.

While admitting the lack of police force in proportion to the population, the Chief Minister said that more efficient working of police could give better results.

He said preparations should be started right away to ensure adequate power supply to farmers during the Rabi season.

Chouhan said that the officers should take keen interest in conservation of wildlife and asked them to hold district-wise committee meetings on time to curb forest offences.

He underlined the need to streamline the public distribution system and said that one-salesman-one-shop system should be ensured.
