Govt Considering Common Counselling for Admission to IIT, NIT

The central government is ruminating over a common conselling system for prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) and National Institute of Technology (NITs) to smoothen admission to them.

Under present system, IITs hold their own entrance test for admitting students, while NITs take students from the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) merit list.

Thus, students have to go through separate counselling for admission into IITs and NITs.

Yesterday, at the ITT directors’ meet in New Delhi, a plane to have common counseling for both IIT-JEE and AIEEE was discussed.

“But, no decision could be taken. The matter will again come up at the IIT Council meeting to be held later,” an IIT director said.

The proposed system will be of immense help as it will smoothen the process of admission. Students will be able to choose their institute from the common counselling session and take admission there.
