Going is not easy as MP: Rahul Gandhi shares with British MPs

Rahul Gandhi continued his attack on the Narendra Modi-led government during his UK tour, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday told British parliamentarians that functioning microphones in the Indian Parliament are often silenced against the Opposition.

“Our mics are not out of order, they are functioning, but you still can’t switch them on. That’s happened to me a number of times while I am speaking,” Gandhi told the gathering, in response to a question about sharing his experience of being a politician in India with his British counterparts.

The Wayanad MP stated that they were not allowed to discuss demonetisation, which he said was a “disastrous financial decision”.

He also shared his experiences from the 3500-km long ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ he undertook from September 2022 to January 2023. The RSS and the BJP are infiltrating institutions. They are coercing these institutions and (hence) conversations are not possible. That is why (I undertook) Bharat Jodo Yatra.

He added that the central idea of Bharat Jodo Yatra was that “India needs to start talking again”.

Virendra Sharma Labour MP for Ealing, Southall, said, “What Rahul Gandhi said will have no impact on the relationship between India and Britain. Views that he expressed were personal to him and according to his politics.”

When asked about his “hopes and dreams” for India, he said that the “future of India is very good as long as we can take care of this turbulent period we are going through where our structures are being attacked”.
