Ground Report: People say they give full marks to PM Modi for development work in Varanasi

Varanasi: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to visit his Lok Sabah constituency Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh today, the people in his constituency have expressed mixed reaction over the development works in the holy city. Prime Minister will file nominations papers from Varanasi today.

The Prime Minister will land in the holy city in the afternoon. PM Modi will also hold a long road show that is expected to end at the Assi Ghat. Since 2014 PM Modi has made a number of visits to the city.

After reaching the Ghat in the evening, Prime Minister will conduct the famous Ganga Arti.

Mirror Now has spoken to a number of people who say they give full marks to Prime Minister for working towards development in the city. People also say the PM Modi has carried out a lot of development work be it the cleanliness of the city, removing encroachments and widening roads.

However, there were some voices including spiritual leaders who are upset over the demolition of older structures in the city for the construction of Kashi corridor.

People say they want the central government and the Prime Minister to come to the city and talk to them so that older structure are not demolished while the work for Kashi corridor is underway.

People say though Namami Gange Project has been a success but more needs to be done to stop pollution in the holy river. Similarly, in Kanpur, there are many drains dumping the sewage and city waste in the river thereby polluting it.

The priests in the holy city says that some amount of cleaning of the Ganga has been carried out, but there are couple of drain in the city that are continuously polluting the river.

The priests have also demanded that when PM Modi comes to the Assi Ghat he should announce more measures that will help in cleaning the Ganga on a bigger scale. Though everybody acknowledges that work has begun to clean the river but more needs to be done to make the river cleaner.
