FIR Lodged on Karkare’s Missing Bullet-proof Jacket

Finally, an FIR has been lodged at JJ Marg police station by Mumbai police on the missing bullet-proof jacket of former Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare.

On Monday, the Mazgaon Metropolitan Court had ordered the Mumbai Police to look into the matter of Karkare’s missing bullet-proof jacket.

The court gave the instruction on a complaint of a Mumbai resident, Santosh Daundkar, who had approached the court over Karkare’s bullet-proof jacket missing from Sir JJ Hospital, where his body was taken for an autopsy after getting shot dead at Cama Hospital during the 26/11 terror attacks.

Kavita Karkare, slain cop’s widow, had moved an RTI plea to learn about the quality of the bullet-proof jacket. She was, in response, told that her husband’s jacket had gone missing. An angry Kavita raised several questions including how martyred heroes were treated shabbily while crores of rupees were spent to preserve the bodies of terrorists.

“I have repeatedly met senior police officers to find out how my husband died but no one has given me any answer. I have been told that I will never know how he died. Even his bulletproof vest has gone missing – the vest’s procurement file marks it missing. I always suspected they would say that the jacket has gone missing,” she had said.
