EVMs Tamper-Proof, Reasserts EC

Amid serious aspersions being cast over the impregnability of Electronic Voter Machines (EVMS), the Election Commission on Saturday reasserted that the poll devices could not be tampered and said that none of the political parties or others, raising doubts over them, could prove that EVMs could be fudged.

The poll panel had called all those who had raised objections over the EVMs for a demonstration that concluded on Saturday.

During the demonstration, 100 EVMs randomly procured by the EC from ten states, were put to test in the presence of BEL and ECIL experts.

“The outcome of the exercise is that none of the persons, who were given the opportunity, could actually demonstrate any tamperability of the ECI-EVMs in any of the 100 machines put on display. They either failed or chose not to demonstrate,” the EC said in a statement issued in New Delhi.

The communiqué added that the meeting was called “to set at rest any misgiving” about the use of EVMs in general elections.
