Seven separatists were killed in a pre-dawn encounter with the paramilitary Assam Rifles near village Sanapat on the outskirts of Imphal, Manipur on Sunday, security personnel have recovered a haul of explosives and weapons from the slain insurgents, inform police officials.
Based on specific inputs, the troops were in the area for an anti-insurgency operation when they came under automatic weapon fire from the militants.
The ensuing encounter lasted nearly an hour during which the seven militants were killed. The police said that a few others may have escaped into the darkness.
The identity of the militants or the group they were aligned to is yet to be established.
