26/11 Trail: Verdict on Kasab on May 3

A special court in Arthur Road Jail will announce judgement in the Mumbai terror attacks case on May 3, almost a year after trial began, said media reports.

On Thursday, both the defence and prosecution concluded their arguments in the case in which only surviving attacker Amir Ajmal Kasab is the main accused.

Special judge ML Tahaliyani announced that he would pronounce the verdict in the case on May, reports said.

During the entire trial, a total of 653 witnesses were examined.

Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal NJikam described the case as historic, saying that it took only one year, said reports.

Defence counsel KP Pawar, however, claimed that Kasab was implicated falsely in the case, reports said.

“I have tried to present my evidences to the judge. There are several chances of the fabrication of the hard disk which has CCTV footage of Kasab. I have explained in all ways that the photographs taken at CST were not that of Kasab. Photographs taken at CST were morphed with Kasab’s face. I could observe different moods in Kasab while I used to interact with him,” Pawar was quoted as saying.

“According to Section 313(4) the statement of the accused has to be taken into consideration. I have submitted my arguments in front of the court. My duty was to go along the evidences which can protect my client,” he was quoted as saying.
