CPM attacks Samajwadi Party on FDI in retail issue

New Delhi: In a veiled attack on Samajwadi Party, CPI(M) on Monday said the vote on FDI in retail could be defeated if all parties which had pledged support to UPA come together.
“We had demanded a discussion entailing voting on FDI. For five days, the government did accept it. Government did not allow Parliament to function (by not allowing vote for five days) and it is responsible for this,” Sitaram Yechury, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member said.
The Left parties also turned down Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath’s demand that all secular Opposition parties should reject the “politics of BJP” on the FDI issue, saying it is an issue of policy and not politics.

“What we are saying that there is no politics in it. It is a rejection of the policy that the government has announced. When NDA government also mulled over this issue when they were in power for six years, we had opposed it then and we oppose it now,” Yechury said.

Talking to reporters outside Parliament House, he said that the Left parties’ opposition to the FDI is “based on our assessment of the situation, based on facts, the analysis has been presented in Parliament in number of time.
