Delhi HC Restrains AI Employees from Continuing Strike

Delhi High Court has restrained Air India employees from carrying on their strike, said media reports.

Earlier in the day, Air India approached Mumbai High Court against striking employees.

Agitating employees today adopted conciliator tone after government gave free hand to Air India management to crack down on them calling their action irresponsible, reports said.

The employees held talks with the management over the gag order issue, though first round of talks failed in arriving at a solution and second is expected later in the day, said reports.

More than 20,000 employees, including engineers, are on a nationwide flash strike in protest against Air India’s gag order, a circular which prohibits union leaders from going public with their demands.

When striking employees refused to unrelent on their demand for withdrawal of the gag order and the show-cause notices to union leaders, the AI management toughened its stand late Tuesday night and even threatened to terminate service of the employees if they did not call off the stir.

Due to the strike, another 76 domestic and international flights were cancelled and thousands of passengers were left stranded on the second day of the strike.

AI had cancelled nearly 50 domestic and international flights yesterday with many others being delayed for over two hours.

Air India has announced full refund to those whose flights were cancelled and made arrangements for hotel accommodation and local transport to those in transit.
