Congress condoles on Arjun Singh’s death

ALLAHABAD: On Saturday in a special Indian Air Force plane the mortal remains of former union minister and senior Congress leader Arjun Singh were brought here at Bamrauli airport. His body was kept at the airport area where including UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Jitendra Nath Singh, UPCC vice-president Shekhar Bahuguna and other Congress leaders paid their tributes.

“His death is great loss not only to the Congress party but to Indian politics. He had always remained a leader of the masses and always vouched for the cause of poor and downtrodden,” said Rita Bahuguna.

Joshi said Arjun Singh did his higher education at Allahabad University. In his long political career, Singh twice served as the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh and was also the governor of Punjab.

Singh was the HRD minister during the tenure of PV Narsimha Rao and later under Prime MinisterManmohan Singh from 2004 to 2009.

Singh always strived towards strengthening the Congress party and played an active role in rooting out terrorism and establishing peace in Punjab during his tenure as state governor, said Yashvir Singh Yadav.

UPCC spokesperson Jawed Urfi, Dharamraj Singh Patel, Fuzail Hashmi and Kishore Varshney also paid their tribute to Arjun Singh.

After that the body of Singh was taken by his family and personal staff in a special Air Force helicopter to his native place, Churhat in Madhya Pradesh.
