Cong Warns of Prez Rule if BJP, JMM Don’t Sort out Jharkhand Stalemate

With stalemate continuing in Jharkhand, the Congress has indicated that the central government will go for president’s rule in case the BJP and the JMM are unable to sort out the issues for forming the next government soon, said media reports.

“The situation prevailing in the state is a matter of serious concern,” Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmad was quoted as saying.

“JMM was ruling the state in alliance with BJP. The latter for some reason decided to withdraw support and then put its decision on hold.

“What the two parties do is not our concern, but we’re certainly concerned over the situation in the state.

For the past 8-10 days, governance has come to a standstill. The impasse should come to an end,” he was quoted as saying.

He then warned the BJP and the JMM that the two parties should be ready to face intervention by the Centre, reports said.

“Congress will not hesitate to demand that the constitutional provisions be invoked to end this prolonged phase of political uncertainty,” Ahmad was quoted as saying.

Congress has closely watching the scenario in the state and expressed concern over the ‘absence of governance’ in the state.

With JMM and BJP unable to iron out their differences over the leadership issue, Congress feels the state could not be held hostage to the machinations of the two alliance partners for long.
