Clash in Ramanathapuram district, DMK MP arrested

CHENNAI, (IANS):On Tuesday J.K. Ritheesh the ruling DMK’s MP from Ramanathapuram was lodged in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai prison after his arrest for alleged criminal intimidation and atrocities against Dalits in his constituency a day earlier.

A police official said, he was arrested after a clash between DMK cadres and supporters of DMDK-AIADMK combine Monday in Ramanathapuram district, some 390 km from here.

The DMK men were trying to repair a village road which was in a bad shape. The DMDK-AIADMK men objected to the repair work, alleging that it violated the election code of conduct. This sparked the clash, said police sources.

After police pacified the warring parties, Ritheesh with his supporters came in several vehicles and attacked some villagers. The villagers blocked roads demanding the arrest of Ritheesh.

After that 10 people including, the M P arrested by the police.
