India ranked 4th worst country in religious violence

New Delhi. Among the 198 countries, India ranked fourth in the world for religious intolerance. The second largest populous country trailed only from Syria, Nigeria and Iraq, a report of Pew Research Center analysis says.

However, India is not alone in seeing more religious unrest. Globally, Pew says, government restrictions on religion and social hostilities involving religion increased in 2015 for the first time in three years. Pakistan has ranked 10th in this list.

Pew analyzed cases that involved hate crimes, mob violence, communal violence, religion-related terror, the use of force to prevent religious practice, the harassment of women for not conforming to religious dress codes, and violence over conversion or proselytizing.
