Bengal’s first woman Chief Minister took oath on Friday

KOLKATA: Mamata Banerjee took oath to become the first woman Chief Minister of West Bengal, Friday afternoon.

It was a historic moment for the state and personally for Mamata who has waited for the moment all her life.

Banerjee took oath in Bengali marking a change of guard that will see the end of 34 years of uninterrupted rule by the CPI(M)-led Left Front.

She said while addressing, “Thank you for your support. We need to keep calm and work. I will not meet anyone for seven days as I need to work a lot in the next couple of days. I need to take care of economic condition of the state. I will work day and night.”

The Trinamool Congress list of ministers includes Amit Mitra, Partha Chatterjee, Manish Gupta, Subrata Mukherjee, Abdul Karim Chowdhury, Sadhan Pandey, Upen Biswas, Sabitri Mitra, Bratya Basu, Madan Mitra and Noore Alam Chowdhury.

Left Front, which was routed by the Mamata-led Trinamool Congress-Congress-Socialist Unity Centre of India alliance in the Assembly elections, was represented by former chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and CPI(M) state secretary Biman Bose at the swearing-in ceremony.
