Arun Jaitley says Cong has no remorse over 1984 anti-Sikh riots, asks will Rahul sack his ‘guru’ Sam Pitroda

New Delhi: Reacting to Sam Pitroda’s ‘hua to hua’ remark on the 1984 Sikh killings, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said it is reflective of the lack of remorse on the part of Congress Party and called the matter a disgrace.

Taking a jibe at the Congress president Rahul Gandhi who calls Pitroda as his “Guru” Jaitley said: “Will the Congress President oust his ‘Guru’, who rubbishes the genocide of India’s most patriotic community in 1984?”
Brushing off the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, Indian Overseas Congress chief Pitroda had said, “It happened in 1984, so what?” He also said that PM Modi should give the account of the all the work he did in his tenure as the PM of this country.

After Pitroda’s remark leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) attacked the Congress and its leader Sam Pitroda saying that Congress’ anti-Sikh mentality was clearly visible through his remark.

“He (Rahul Gandhi) keeps on saying that his father (Rajiv Gandhi) and grandmother (Indira Gandhi) were assassinated. And Pitroda is saying so what if the riots happened. Six thousand people were killed in the anti-Sikh riots. Our daughters and sisters were raped. And now, instead of giving us justice, you have kept the culprits with you. Pitroda has proved today that Gandhi family’s heart is full of hatred against the Sikhs,” said SAD leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa.

Later, the BJP said that as per the Nanavati Commission formed to probe the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, the instructions to kill innocent Sikhs came directly from the then PM Rajiv Gandhi’s office.

As per the official estimate, over 2,800 Sikhs were killed across India, including 2,100 in Delhi, during the pogrom that started after the assassination of then PM Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards Satwant Singh and Beant Singh. While Beant Singh was killed by Gandhi’s security officers, Satwant Singh was hanged in 1989 along with his accomplice Kehar Singh.
