Appointment of Governors after Another Round of Consultations: Reports

In connection with appointment of governors to six states, the Congress Core Committee is likely to hold another meeting before it makes an announcement in a day or two. However, transfer of National Security Advisor MK Narayanan to Raj Bhavan seems certain, reported ‘Express buzz’.

“The core committee is likely to meet again tomorrow and an announcement will made in a day or two,’’ a senior Congress leader was quoted as saying leader after the meeting.

The meeting was billed as ‘inconclusive’, for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to have another round of consultations with Union Home Minister P Chidamabaram, said report.

As for the post of National Security Advisor that Narayanan is likely to vacate, at lest three people are being considered, said report.

Report said that former foreign secretary Shiv Shankar Menon is the frontrunner in the race. However, he has a close competitor in Ronen Sen, India’s former ambassador to the United States. Sen played a vital role in clinching the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal. Shyam Sharan, who is in the PMO handling the crucial climate change negotiations, is also in the reckoning.

Singh, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, her political secretary Ahmed Patel and Union Ministers Pranab Mukherjee, Chidambaram and A K Antony attended Friday’s core committee meeting. The PM also held a separate meeting with Sonia Gandhi on the pending issue.
