Appointing new CVC

NEW DELHI: On Saturday the CVC selection panel will meet to select his replacement it occurred after four months after the Supreme Court quashed the controversial appointment of PJ Thomas.

The committee comprising the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and the Leader of Opposition will be meeting to pick a new Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC).

Reports suggest four names as contenders for the post of the top anti-corruption watchdog.

Former Secretary GK Pillai, Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar, retired IAS officer Naresh Dayal and Railway Board member AP Mishra are said to be the front-runners.

Remember, Thomas was appointed despite strong objection from Sushma Swaraj in 2010. The Central Vigilance Commissioner post has been lying vacant since March.

Sources have told that Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar has been unanimously selected by the committee to be the new CVC.

Kumar retires as Defence Secretary on July 31. He is a Haryana cadre IAS officer of the 1972 batch, and was Disinvestment Secretary and Secretary, Defence Production, before becoming the Defence Secretary.
