Amravati Mayor Says No to Prez’ Posters, Upsets Shekhawat

In the wake of Amravati Mayor Ashok Dongre’s decision to remove posters of his mother, President Pratibha Patil’s son Rajendra Shekhawat seems to be upset.

Many other politicians are also of the view that Shekhawat shouldn’t have tried using his mother’s status to woo voters.

It may be mentioned that Dongre yesterday demanded that the President’s posters and banners should be removed from all public places in the city as it amounts to giving an unfair advantage to Congress candidate Rajendra Shekhawat in his campaign for forthcoming assembly polls.

“Election Code of Conduct has to be respected across Maharashtra and that includes Amravati,” said Dongre.

Because of the Mayor belong to Congress himself, his demand has led to a controversy in Amravati. But Shekhawat seems firm on his stand.

“Is it a crime to be the President’s son? I have worked very hard to get where I am,” says Shekhawat.

Needless to add, the fight between Shekhawat and Congress rebel Sunil Deshmukh has become the center of attention for a lot of people and not just in Amravati.

But all over Maharashtra it remains to be seen whether just like the Mayor of Amravati, other congressmen come out in support of Deshmukh or not.
