Army Kills 10 Terrorists in J&K under Operation Thunder Strike

As many as 10 terrorists have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir in a 10-day operation carried out as part of Indian Army’s newly launched Operation Thunder Strike, said media reports.

Besides, a huge quantity of automatic rifles, grenades, IEDs, rocket launchers and a huge cache of ammunition were also seized in the anti-terror operation in Hafruda forests, said reports.

The huge reserve of arms and ammunition indicate that Pakistan is giving another major push to terrorists on the Indian side of Line of Control, reports said.

In the operations, three security personnel including one officer were also killed.

“This operation has started on May 5. We killed 11 terrorists and no civilian casualties have taken place,” Major General N George, GOC of Kilo Force of the Indian Army, was quoted as saying.

The Army has penetrated deep into the forests to neutralise the terrorists just near the LoC, but the challenges still remain.

“There are 27 terrorists who sneaked into this side since January, out of which we have killed 13 so far,” North Kashmir Range DIG AQ Manhas was quoted as saying.

Police have even mapped areas where they plan to accelerate the operations, reports said.

In the meanwhile, reports said quoting Army sources that attempts of infiltration were on and the latest attempts were made from RS Pora in Jammu and Handwara in Kashmir.

“The areas infested presently are Lolab area, Rajwar, Zachaldara, Hafruda, Mawar, Rafiabad, parts of Sopore and adjoining areas of Bandipora connecting with Kupwara,” DIG Manhas was quoted as saying.
