Advani’s another yatra, now against corruption!

NEW DELHI: On Thursday BJP’s 84-year-old LK Advani announced his intent of embarking on yet another yatra, and this time going by the public mood, it is against corruption.

“I have decided to embark on a yatra…have spoken to the party president,” said Advani.

Advani announced it on the same day when he took ownership of the cash-for-votes sting and dared the Government to arrest him. He told Parliament that he was aware of the entrapment being laid by the then three BJP MP’s – two of whom are now behind bars along with Amar Singh.

“Put me behind bars along with the MP’s,” said Advani.

Questioning the BJP’s silence till date, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said, “Mr Advani has for the last three years not owned up to the sting”.

Advani’s new found aggression is likely to have its repercussions on BJP’s internal politics. With second rung leaders waiting in the wings, the leadership issue could once again have been thrown for contention.

Nitin Gadkari BJP President, in a statement last month had announced that the BJP will not project a prime ministerial candidate in the run up to 2014 general elections. Thereafter the issue also came up for discussion in an RSS conclave at Ujjain, which was attended by the party top brass.

So far Advani has been the deputy prime minister and the prime ministerial candidate in 2009. The 84-year-old patriarch perhaps wants to have one final shot at prime ministership.
