Adhir Ranjan embarrasses Congress, says Article 370 not an internal issue, Amit Shah hits back

There was a heated debate between Amit Shah and Adhir Ranjhan Chowdhury after the Congress leader said Article 370 is not an internal matter.

In an embarrassment for the Congress, Congress leader Adhir Ranjhan Chowdhury said Article 370 was not an internal matter. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Adhir Ranjhan Chowdhury engaged in a heated debate in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday after the Congress leaders asked the Home Minister to clarify why the issue of Article 370 was not being considered a bilateral one.”You say that it is an internal matter. But it is being monitored since 1948 by the UN, is that an internal matter? We signed the Shimla Agreement & Lahore Declaration, was that an internal matter or bilateral?” Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury asked the Home Minister.Saying that S Jaishankar earlier told US not to interfere in Kashmir as it was a bilateral matter, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury asked, “Can J&K still be an internal matter? We want to know. Entire Congress party wants to be enlightened by you.” Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s remarks on Kashmir led to a war of words with Amit Shah asking the Congress leader if he considered Pakistan occupied Kashmir as a part of India. “Jammu & Kashmir is an integral part of the Union of India,” Amit Shah said as he asked Congress to clarify its stand on Kashmir and if it wanted the United Nations to take decisions for Kashmir.Congress’s Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s comments came as he slammed the Centre for scrapping Article 370 by going against all rules of the Constitution overnight. “I don’t think you are thinking about PoK, you violated all rules and converted a state into a Union Territory overnight,” Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said. Asserting that PoK and Aksai Chin are part of Jammu and Kashmir and that Kashmir is an integral part of the country, Amit Shah quipped, “Jaan de denge iske liye! When I say J&K it also includes PoK. The boundaries of J&K as mentioned in our constitution includes PoK and Aksai Chin.” Amit Shah moves resolution for abrogating Article 370 provisions. Amit Shah on Tuesday moved a resolution for abrogating some provisions of Article 370 and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill 2019. The Union Home Minister Amit Shah said there has been a long-standing demand for status of Union Territory to Ladakh which was fulfilled by the Narendra Modi government. Congress has been vehemently opposing after the Centre on Monday moved to scrap the constitutional provision that accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir.Centre’s big move on Jammu and Kashmir. The government also proposed the bifurcation of the state into two union territories, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the decision in the Rajya Sabha, which later approved both the resolution and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation bill. Both are now in the Lok Sabha.
