ABVP Protestors Cane-charged in Patna, 12 Arrested

BJP’s student wing ABVP has been cane-charged in Patna, with 12 students taken into custody and another 12 injured, said media reports.

According to reports, nearly three thousands activists belonging to ABVP were protesting against the opening of a branch of the Aligarh Muslim University in Kishanganj district of Bihar, which has predominately Muslim population.

Protesters, however, demand that the varsity should be opened in Katihar, as originally planned by the state government, reports said.

During protest, the students could be seen pelting stones at police vehicles and trying to jostle their way past police barricades and to try to meeting chief minister Nitish Kumar with their charger of demands, said reports.

The police retaliated when the students broke the final barricading in Patna’s R Block area, close to Nitish Kumar’s residence.
