3 cubs of cheetah ‘Jwala’ lost their weight…so lost their lives: Improvement in the health of the fourth cub; CM Shivraj convened a meetingThe reason for the death of 3 cubs of female cheetah ‘Jwala’ in Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park has been attributed to high heat as well as their weight. On Friday, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was informed by the officials of the forest department that the weight of the three dead cubs was 1.6 kg, while at this age the weight remains up to 3 kg. Hot summer along with lack of nutrition is the possible reason. Here, the health of the fourth cub is improving. On Friday, the team of experts in Kuno National Park Management was busy monitoring the cub.

Chief Minister Chouhan was informed by the officers about the reasons for the death of the cubs, the resettlement of cheetahs, the period of their quarantine and their care. PCCF JS Chauhan said that the possible reasons for the death of cheetah cubs on May 23 appear to be lack of nutrition and extremely hot weather. The fourth cub is being rescued and is being treated under the supervision of wildlife doctors. The health of the cub is showing improvement. The weight of the dead cubs was a meager 1.6 kg, whereas according to the standards, cubs of this age should weigh around 3 kg.

will release 3 cheetahs in the open
So far, a total of six cheetahs have been released in the open forest in Kuno. Whose monitoring is being done. PCCF Chauhan said that there is a plan to release 3 more cheetahs in the open forest in the coming days. Necessary preparations have also started in Gandisagar Sanctuary, which is likely to be completed by November. Similarly, preparations are to be started in Nauradehi Sanctuary as well. The CM directed that after setting a time line for these preparations in Nauradehi and Gandisagar Sanctuary, get it approved by the newly formed Project Cheetah Steering Committee.

Now there are 18 leopards left in Kuno
In the first consignment, 8 cheetahs were brought from Namibia to Kuno National Park. He was released in the enclosure by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday on 17 September. After this, on February 18, 12 more leopards were brought to Kuno from South Africa. Jwala, a female cheetah brought from Namibia, gave birth to 4 cubs in March. First 3 cheetahs and then 3 cheetah cubs died one by one. Now there are only 18 cheetahs left in Kuno.

Jwala became a mother for the first time
The female cheetah Jwala is healthy. She has become a mother for the first time. Cheetah cubs are about 8 weeks old. At this age, they try to understand things and walk with their mother continuously. The cubs had just started roaming with mother Jwala about 8-10 days ago.

Sometimes the death of cheetahs

Female cheetah Sasha brought from Namibia died on March 26
Cheetah Uday brought from South Africa died on April 23
Daksha, the female cheetah brought from South Africa, died on May 9.
On May 23, a cub of Jwala, brought from Namibia, died.
Two more cubs of Jwala died on May 25.
