100 days of SP rule in UP, Congress mum

New Delhi: Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party government on Saturday completed its 100 days of governance. SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav gave full marks to his son saying the “loot in previous regime” has stopped and the law and order is fully under control.

However, going by the sporadic violence involving SP workers, which started soon after party’s stunning victory in UP, Akhilesh has little to cheer about SP’s governance. However Mulayam is happy with his son’s performance.

“I will give 100 out of 100 marks to the SP government in the state. The loot in previous regime has stopped and besides fulfiling promises in party manifesto, the government has full control over law and order,” Yadav told reporters in Lucknow.
Congress refused to comment on Akhilesh regime. AICC spokesman Manish Tewari said, “People have given a mandate to SP government. They have completed their first 100 days and we do continue to watch the situation carefully.”
The cryptic reply left little doubt that Congress would find it difficult to resume its aggression against SP, already in evidence when AICC on Thursday slammed spokesman Rashid Alvi for calling Mulayam Singh Yadav a “BJP agent”. The party went to the extent of clarifying that it disagreed with the statement and disapproved of it, while crediting SP for being a secular political force.

While campaigning in local body elections in UP, Alvi said he had not seen a bigger BJP agent than Mulayam in last 10 years. The statement set off a flurry of reaction and AICC took no time to disown it.

The sensitivity in Congress over political parties seems to be at an all-time high. It is eagerly booking support for Presidential election, while a restive Trinamool Congress has forced the party managers to look for partners for a contingency. SP is seen to fit the bill.
