BJP to Raise Phone Tapping Issue in Parliament

BJP has said that it will raise the issue of phone tapping of politicians by the central government in Parliament on Monday, said media reports.

“If the government is tapping the phones of terrorists, or tax evaders or secessionists, then it is understandable as national interest and national security are involved. But tapping phones of politicians and ministers is condemnable,” BJP Deputy Leader in Rajya Sabha S S Ahluwalia was quoted as saying.

He made the remarks while referring to a report in Outlook magazine which claimed that government agencies ‘tapped and taped’ conversations between Sharad Pawar and Lalit Modi following the IPL scandal this month.

The report claimed the phones of Digvijay Singh, Nitish Kumar and Prakash Karat were being tapped since 2006.

The Congress left it to the government to explain.
