Water conservation should be included in school syllabus
Bhopal. Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that children need to be educated and made aware of water conservation and augmentation for better results in this field. For this, he suggested to include water conservation subject in school syllabus. The Chief Minister was addressing 4th Water Week programme in Delhi today. Union Water Resources Minister Sushri Uma Bharti and Union Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley lauded water conservation works in Madhya Pradesh.
The Chief Minister said that a campaign should be launched to renovate and conserve old lakes and dig new ones. He said that unprecedented expansion of irrigation facilities has been done in Madhya Pradesh. During last 11-12 years, irrigation capacity in the state has been increased from 7.5 lakh hectares to 36 lakh hectares.
The Chief Minister said that Bundelkhand region facing, drought and famine-like conditions will be transformed by implementing Ken-Betwa river link project. He also informed about Narmada link project of Madhya Pradesh. He said that work to link rivers between Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh will be undertaken. Ken-Betwa river link project will take shape soon with mutual consent of both the states.
It is noteworthy that Union Water Resources Minister has been holding Indian Water Week since 2012. This year, theme of the Week is ‘Water for All : Striving Together’. Various issues were discussed at the programme held in collaboration of Union Agriculure, Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Rural Development, Urban Development, Drinking Water Supply & Sanitation, Energy and other ministries and NITI Ayog. The issues discussed mainly pertained to agriculture & irrigation, energy generation, industrial production & demand management, rural and urban drinking water supply, recycling & quality of water etc.
