Jawan Killed, Captain Injured in Gunbattle between Militants, Army in J&K

In an ongoing gunbattle with militants, an army soldier has been killed and an officer injured in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir, said media reports citing police.

“The encounter started late Tuesday evening. One captain and a soldier of the army were wounded when militants fired at a raiding party of the security forces in Chatibandi village,” a senior police officer was quoted as saying.

“The soldier later succumbed to his injuries while the captain has been shifted for treatment. More reinforcements have been rushed to the area to strengthen the cordon at the encounter site,” he was quoted as saying.

Army had had launched a search operation in Chattibandi to sanitise the area off militants, said reports.

The exchange of fire between militants and the security personnel broke out during the army operation, reports said.
