Suicide Car Bomb Targets Nato Convoy in Kabul; 19 Dead, 52 Injured

Nearly 19 persons have died and 52 others been wounded as a suicide car bomb targeted a Nato convoy in the Afghan capital Kabul, reported BBC quoting police.

According to report, the explosion occurred at the Darulaman crossroads, near the parliament and other government buildings.

Those killed in the attack were Afghan civilians and it was still not known if any foreign trooper died in the blast, said report.

Some high-profile Taliban-engineered attacks have taken place in Kabul lately in spite of heavy security.

The suicide bomber is reported to have been driving a car laden with explosives, report said.

The Afghan interior ministry said that an Isaf (Nato-led) convoy was caught up in the attack in the west of the city, said report.

An Isaf spokesman said that a probe was on and that no group yet claimed the responsibility for the attack, said report.

BBC reported that the police have set up extra checkpoints throughout the city this year in the wake of a series of attacks by gunmen and bombers on government offices and hotels.

But it is impossible to stop and search every car that enters the city, so these attacks seem certain to continue, report said.
