Kyrgyz Mobs Torch Villages, Slaughter Uzbeks

Shoot at sight orders failed to desist rioters Sunday as Kyrgyz mobs reduced several Uzbek villages to ashes and slaughtered residents in southern Kyrgyzstan, forcing thousands to flee to the Uzbekistan border, say reports.

Over 100 people have been killed and over 1,000 wounded since the violence erupted on Thursday night.

According to latest reports, rioters destroyed most of Osh, now under control of the rioters.

Ethnic tensions in Kyrgyzstan reached a flashpoint after Uzbeks backed an interim government formed after a bloody uprising in April ousted former President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, supported by the Kyrgyz.
