Roxana Saberi Hospitalised, Released from Tehran Prison Clinic

Roxana Saberi – the 32 year old US born correspondent of the NPR – was briefly hospitalized after she intensified her protest fast by refusing to drink water at an Iranian prison where she has been lodged since being sentenced to eight years imprisonment on espionage charges, said a top international journalist group on Monday.

According to Paris based ‘Journalists Without Borders,’ Saberi was taken to a clinic at Tehran’s Evin prison, she was later released from the clinic after she started drinking water.

Saberi, a freelance journalist for the BBC and the NPR, is a dual Iranian-US citizen, has been based in Iran for the last six years.

Initially accused of working without press credentials, Saberi was later charged with passing on intelligence to the US.

An Iranian court after a day long closed door trial sentenced her to eight years in prison.

Seeking an immediate release for Saberi, the Obama administration was prompt in refuting espionage charges slapped on the journalist
