Pakistan not to convert death penalty into life sentence
Islamabad: Pakistan’s Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Wednesday said in the Upper House of Parliament that there was no proposal under consideration of the government to convert the death sentence into life imprisonment.
Responding to a question, the he said that 13,223 death penalties were awarded across the country since 2002, of which, 501 were carried out, the report said.
The minister said 12,404 people were killed while 26,881 were injured in various terrorist incidents during the same period across the country.
He also said that 413 incidents of terrorism, which include suicide attacks, took place in the country since June 2013.
