Pak Beefs up Security for Sikh Pilgrims

Keeping in view at least 1,500 visiting Sikhs visiting from India to celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, Pakistani authorities have put in place tight security measures to ensure the safety of pilgrims.

Masroor Ahmed Kalachi, district police chief, said that foolproof security measures have been adopted to hand any untoward incident in the course of festivities beginning today in Guru Nanak’s birthplace of Nanakana Sahib.

Also, additional police personnel from other districts have been brought in for the three-day celebrations in Nankana Sahib.

“Around 1,000 constables and 200 officers have been deployed in and around Gurdwara Janamsthan and six other gurdwaras in the city,” he said.

Barricades have been put at all entry points of Nankana Sahib and other important places.

Walk-through gates have been installed at the entrance of all gurdwaras and metal detectors are being used to search all visitors to the shrines, Kalachi said.
