Pak Army Arrests Officer for ‘Links’ to Headley, Rana

The Pakistani army has arrested an unnamed retired Major for alleged links with terror suspects David Coleman Headley and Tahawwur Hussain Rana, who were recently arrested by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for allegedly plotting terror strikes in India and Denmark.

The accused was arrested from the garrison city of Rawalpindi on the outskirts of the Pakistani capital of Islamabad, say media reports.

Pak army spokesman Maj Gen Athar Abbas said the Major, who retired two years ago, has been arrested and is currently being interrogated by intelligence agencies.

Abbas said the retired personnel was arrested as he was “in communication” with Headley and Rana.

He however denied a report that five army officers, including two serving Colonels and a retired Brigadier, had been detained by authorities, describing it as handiwork of those out to embarrass the Pakistan Army.
