North Korea to Restart Nuclear Facility

In an angry response to a United Nations denouncement of its recent long range rocket launch, the North Korean government termed the multinational disarmament talks “useless,” and said it will soon restart its restart nuclear facilities and boost its arsenal of humanity threatening weapons.

Pyongyang says the UN Security Council’s presidential statement criticizing the country for its recent rocket launch “degrades the dignity” of the North Korean people.

A North Korean TV announcer read out a governmental statement that said talks aimed at ending the North’s nuclear weapons are “not needed,” and asserted that it would no longer participate in the process.

The statement further said that the North will restart its main nuclear facility and reprocess stored nuclear fuel rods into material usable for boosting what it calls its “nuclear deterrent,”

Hours earlier, UN Security Council members, including China, unanimously condemned North Korea’s rocket launch over Japan two weeks ago. Their statement calls for UN members to more vigilantly enforce sanctions imposed after the North conducted its 2006 nuclear test.

Soon after the statement was publicized several nations, including China, called for restraint over the issue and called on Pyongyang to return to negotiations.
